I’m Bibek Gupta, and Melbourne has been home since 2018. A year later, my wife joined me, and together we’ve been building our life here step by step. Fast forward to 2024—it turned out to be a year of milestones and celebrations all rolled into one. We became Permanent Residents, bought our first home, and welcomed our baby boy into the world. If there were an award for “year of the decade,” 2024 would definitely take the trophy for us!
Even though my parents, grandmother, and two married sisters are back in Nepal, family has always been at the centre of everything I do. I carry their love and guidance with me every day. And here in Australia, I’ve been lucky to find another kind of family—my colleagues at Dental Innovation. Since I joined in 2021, they’ve been more than just teammates. With their support, care, and humour, coming to work feels less like “work” and more like catching up with extended family.
Who has been a major influence in your career and why?
The biggest influence in my career has always been my family. My dad’s dedication and hard work gave me the chance to pursue my engineering degree—something that really set the foundation for where I am today. My mum’s love and constant support have been just as important, always giving me strength and encouragement in both big and small ways. My wife and sisters have also been my strongest cheerleaders, always backing me up no matter what. Whether it’s pushing me to aim higher or simply reminding me to keep going on tough days, they’ve shaped not only my career but also the way I approach life. Honestly, without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am now.
What hobby or activity do you enjoy outside of work and how did you get into it?
Outside of work, I like to keep busy in all sorts of ways! Travelling has always been a passion—I love exploring new places and trying different cuisines. When I’m at home, you’ll often find me cooking (or experimenting in the kitchen), catching up on Netflix shows , or getting my hands dirty in the garden. I also enjoy doing little maintenance projects around the house—it’s oddly satisfying to fix things and keep everything running smoothly. But above all, my favourite way to spend time is with my family, especially with my 10-month-old son who keeps me entertained in ways no Netflix series ever could! Visiting the temple is another activity close to my heart, as it gives me a sense of peace and balance that grounds me for the week ahead.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Right at the top of my bucket list is a grand Europe tour. There’s something magical about the idea of walking through cobblestone streets in Italy, trying pastries in Paris, exploring castles in Germany, or seeing the northern lights in Scandinavia. Europe feels like the perfect mix of history, culture, food, and adventure—all in one trip. For me, it’s not just about sightseeing, but about soaking in the experiences, the stories, and maybe even coming back with a few extra kilos thanks to all the food I plan to try!
What’s your Favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
At the end of a long day, my absolute favourite thing is to just sit back and relax with my son. Whether it’s playing with him, watching him laugh, or just seeing the world through his curious eyes, it’s the best stress-buster I know. Once he’s tucked into bed, I switch into my Netflix mode—it’s my way of winding down and switching off. A good show, a comfy couch, and maybe some snacks—that’s my perfect recipe for ending the day on a high note.
What’s one piece of advice you would give your younger self?
If I could go back and talk to my younger self, I’d say: slow down and enjoy the little things. Don’t get too caught up in racing to the next milestone or worrying about what’s around the corner. Life has a funny way of working itself out, and the memories you make with family and friends will always mean more than rushing to “get ahead.” Be present, laugh more, spend time with the people who matter, and trust that the rest will fall into place. Looking back now, I realise it’s the everyday moments—the dinners, the conversations, the time with loved ones—that end up being the most important.
